MP 471: Inside The Sports Car Paddock, Jan 30, with Allmendinger, Braun, and Fry
Wednesday Jan 30, 2019
Wednesday Jan 30, 2019
It's time for the debut of a new show on The Marshall Pruett Podcast as Inside The Sports Car Paddock, a weekly interview format where drivers, team owners, engineers, and more bring us inside their world following major events like last weekend's Rolex 24 At Daytona, and other happenings spanning North American, European, and Asian sports car racing.
Our debut episode opens with CORE autosport race engineer Jeff Braun who breaks down the team's incredible efforts to get their Nissan Onroak DPi to the finish line, the reasons why heavy rains made it impossible to continue racing, and whether the first red flag should have been the final red of the day. BMW Team RLL technical director Brandon Fry is next on the guest list as he details the program's win in the GT Le Mans category, the steering column issues that struck the sister BMW M8 GTE entry when Alex Zanardi climbed in for his first stint, and more from a 24-hour contest that had highs and lows for the German brand.
The final interview in our debut episode goes to A.J. Allmendinger, who had a busy weekend pulling double duty driving a Meyer Shank Racing Acura NSX GT3 in GTD and sprinting up to the NBC Sports broadcast booth between stints.
Jeff Braun: Starts at 4m25s
Brandon Fry: 1h2m30s

MP 469: Busby Racing Wins The 1989 24 Hours of Daytona
Saturday Jan 26, 2019
Saturday Jan 26, 2019
Team owner Jim Busby, driver John Andretti, Busby Racing crew chief Mike Colucci, and Porsche/Andial legend Alwin Springer bring their win at the 1989 Sunbank 24 Hours of Daytona to life on the 30th anniversary of their overall win in the gorgeous No. 67 Porsche 962.
The two-car effort, with the lead No. 67 entry for the late hero Bob Wollek, all-time great Derek Bell, and Andretti, was complemented by a one-off second entry, the No. 68, as a tribute entry featuring the Holbert Racing crew and a 962 chassis for Mario and Michael Andretti, in the wake of Al Holbert’s death a few months earlier.
By the end of the 24 Hour, Porsche had won its 50th race with the 962, which would also serve as Bell's final 24-hour win, and with a long delay for fog, the windshield flying off with Andretti behind the wheel, and a titanic battle for victory with Jaguar that forced Wollek to close the race running at qualifying speeds, the 1989 event is loaded with amazing stories offered by our guests.
