This 15-part series spans some of the greatest drivers, managers, mechanics, designers, and the man himself, Roger Penske, to document The Captain’s vast influence on America’s defining motor race, the Indy 500, and in many instances, the sport as a whole.
Our guest for the third episode is the irascible Bobby Unser. There’s no question about Roger Penske that Bobby Unser can’t turn 180 degrees and make about himself. And that’s the Uncle Bobby charm.
He takes mechanics, team managers, his brother Al, and even Mr. Penske to task when recounting his IndyCar career in and around The Captain’s empire. He also defends Mr. Penske with ferocity, presented in an abstract, me-first manner, of course.
At 85, Uncle Bobby has a free pass to curse and cajole all he wants. And here, it’s an urging to beware: If your ears are sensitive to the unholiest of words and creative ways to describe fornication, this episode is one to skip, with haste.
